Zero Deforestation Value Chains and Food Systems -webinar

22.3.2022 @ 09:00 - 11:00

The linkages between different land use practices and their influence on forest coverage has become more evident during the last years. In particular, the role of certain agricultural practices on deforestation has triggered initiatives to control them. The webinar will explore how food systems affect deforestation and how deforestation could be minimized. Since the EU is advancing on the proposed regulation for 6 main commodities which cause deforestation, we want to discuss how this goal could be reached and how to avoid potential pitfalls. While we aim to reduce deforestation and increase forest protection, it is also important to ensure that farmers get the support needed to comply with new regulations, and that they are able to earn a decent living contributing to green transition.

Fingo and FFD are organizing a webinar on Zero Deforestation Value Chains and Food Systems on 22nd of March 2022 at 9:00am – 11:00am (EET) / 8:00am – 10:00am (CET).

Emeritus Professor, Markku Kanninen from University of Helsinki will explore this topic in his presentation on deforestation. After that Maija Kaukonen, Forest and Development Officer from WWF will present results of a study that WWF conducted on the effects of Finnish consumption on tropical deforestation.

After the presentations, the webinar will continue with a panel discussion. Please see the webinar’s program and details, and register for the event here.
